"Dear Lord, help me to live a life which would have absolutely no meaning if You did not exist"
In support of this aspiration:
Theresa of Calcutta, who lived the last forty years of her life in spiritual darkness, always said: "Smile."
Yes, when you wake up angry, hear the voice of the imbeciles all 'round, and wonder if it's in any way possible that liveable culture has any chance of survival:
Smile -- The Good Lord has you in the palm of His Hand. Sara conceived at the age of 80. Our beloved Benedict the 16th is 80 this month.
Let us say this prayer "together" wherever we are. The Good Angels (and Theresa) will teach us to smile.
Off for another 2 months,
Dad (The Captain, for all you sons-in-law)

Thank you, Dad. A beautiful prayer.
You can't know how much we all love you and Mom.
Dad- this makes me miss you even more-beautiful.
"Love offers itself in an unabashed trust, indeed, in a blind credulity that believes with childlike insouciance in every miracle that the grace of God will work to save the world."
Hans Urs Von Balthasar
Dad suggested we might want to say this prayer every night, at dinner, with grace.
