Habitat for Humanity

The week after Easter I traveled south to Salem County, New Jersey on my 5th Habitat for Humanity trip with the Stags. Every year juniors and seniors fill out applications, write essays, and fork over $100 for the opportunity to give up much of their Spring Break to help those in need and spend quality time making fun of each other.

Boarding the bus with our favorite driver Francisco early Monday morning, we arrived at the work site in time to put in a full day of work. This year's tasks, among other things, involved sledge-hammering a sidewalk, hanging doors, creating an attic crawl space, and general yard work

(Translation: I picked up sticks.)

When the days wrapped up, Francisco whisked us away to the town YMCA where we showered up before heading to a local church building we called home for the week. Fed sloppy Joes and macaroni and cheese by volunteers, we spent our evenings playing board games, poker, and bowling. As always, a great week.
