The recent flurry of activity on the blog was refreshing but seems to have stalled possibly due to Elfo’s sinister influence. So, in order to kick start things a little bit, I’m announcing the first ever Brewsters Millions Haiku Contest.
Some ground rules: first, a Haiku should be composed of three (or fewer) lines of no more than 17 syllables in total. The traditional makuep is line 1 – 5 syllables, line 2- 7 syllables, line 3 - 5 syllables. Here is an example
As the wind does blow
Across the trees, I see the
Buds blooming in May
While you will not be held strictly to that pattern, following that formula gives you a real leg up. More importantly the content should be humorous, clever or otherwise noteworthy. The person who gets Ann to cackle and snort simultanteously probably wins.
I don’t need to give a deadline because I know the contributions will come quickly and from all users. But for the sake of formality, and because at stake is/are untold prize(s) – likely with an Asian theme -please enter your submissions by this Sunday midnight.
Sand da floor. Arigato.

This is right up my alley, Sally. Now, which of my Haikus do I choose...
I like conceit. You're already in the lead.
I've just decided that multiple entries are acceptable. Anything to get the creative juices squeezed out of y'all.
1)I see Luke go pee,
But just not on the pot-ty
Try again next week.
2)Wets his underwear
Instead of sitting on the chair
Try again next week.
Can you tell what's rulling my dull world these days. Not very Asian of me!
1.) Milk goes through the nose
Strangers look on, disgusted
Ann's snorts are epic
2.) "Holla" to the clique
Ya'll know Haikus are the shiz
Brewsters Millions rulez
3.) Even if I lose
I'm still Luca's favorite aunt
Suck on that one, guys
Ok- I see who the winner is already---sucking up to Annie-the judge!!!
Actually-I really liked them.
I can't do poetry to save my life...this is NOT an entry....this is an Oh No!
Maureen, very nice! I laughed so hard I peed my pants.
kbb - I'm surprised at you! You remind me of Terry and Kim during season 1 when they thought they couldn't handle it. They mustered up the courage, fought their way through the day and things turned out fine for them. Allright, maybe that's a bad example but you get it. What would Jack say? (besides damnit).
I didn't say I wouldn't try...
I just said, "Oh No!"
Aloise...hysterical.
Night falls in Brooklyn.
Two hundred steps away from
the smallest of us.
She graduates soon.
A sprite of a little girl
grows graceful and true.
The eighth in a line
wears the mouth of a Muppet.
Sigh rustle cackle.
Thirty five years in love
We celebrate them next week
Best is yet to come
Eight grandchildren prove
Family is where it's at
With pride we adore
My siblings provide
The greatest friendships I have
Love you all to bits!
Awww. You're tugging at my heart strings, Maureen, which is a good strategy. Mushiness will get you everywhere...like Catherine and instant mashed potatoes.
She is coming soon
I feel wiggles every day
My smiles are constant
The boys grow too fast
Andrew and Will are too big
Babies, please stay small
Enough of babies
You can see where my mind is
Lisette's a dirtbag!
OK OK OK!!!
I just got back from Smelly's graduation ( wish you all could have been there....but I will Post more later) to realize that the deadline for this is tonight!
Frank, can you extend the deadline another day or 2 or 3? I want to try my had at this...you posed the challenge and I can't resist, even though it really isn't up my alley at all!.
I doubt I'll come even close to matching any of these, but I can't resist a challenge even though this really isn't up my alley at all.
Soooo..how about it?
(THese are really fun and touching)
kbb -
Life is a highway
all night, I'm gonna ride it
And postponed deadlines
The deadline is postponed per your request for exactly...24 hours (you bring it upon yourself really)
Final submissions are due Monday eveninng at 11:59:59
Winner(s) announced Tuesday
she snorts and cohorts
epitome of crazy
wrapped in a little lady
frog legs that please us
hands and voice that speak to us
letters and giggles
Two boyfriends too much
the heart wrestles and ponders
must Twenty-four hide
"Settling"
The wave precipice,
Towel tickling above sand,
Sea lays beneath mist.
"Lisette"
The black hat’s square,
White clouds fully float adrift,
Doormat is sandy.
"Nora and Sean"
Counting backward days,
Later suns for longer moons:
A daughter awaits.
Andrew and William
Anthony, Luke and Cyrus
Luca, Patrick, Charles
Frank...I don't see a winner picked. And Mom, don't think that quantity will get you the gold.
darn
Yeah,who wins,huh? Mom...and you said you couldn't DO this...great ones!
Thanks, Maureen but wow...did I mess up!
Three hundred and sixty days? It should have been 364...but that's more than 5...as I was counting I became distracted.
And "wrapped in a little lady" was meant to be "wrapped in a lady"..
Oh well....I guess those are the breaks when you try to do something you've never done before. But, boy, did I enjoy trying!
