Summorum Pontificum (7/7/7 was a good day indeed)
I don't know how many of you have been following the lead-up to the Pope's Motu Proprio on the Mass. Sadly, none of you is old enough to remember what the "old" Mass was like. If you check out the menu on the video, you'll get some idea. It was (and will again be) just sooooo beautiful. This is not to say that the "new" Mass can't be just as beautiful -- I saw this in Solesmes (drop-jaw gorgeous). It's a generational thing: We'll probably have to wait til all the polyester pant-suited nuns and grey haired revolutionary padres have gone to their rewards, but things are starting to turn around. The JPII generation is about to take the reins led by that wonderful young man in the vatican. There's a saying making the rounds of the blogs: "Save the Liturgy, Save the World." That's really just another way of saying what that Russian-whose-name-I-can-never-spell said with: "Beauty will save the world."

I went to a Latin Mass in NYC. The Church itself was less than beautiful, but the Mass was wonderful. It was my first experience, and I left having no understanding about all the complaints about the priest facing away from the parish. (This being the major complaint I have heard lodged against it.) The whole Mass seemed of a piece, consistent and transcendent.
A side note: There was a family with three children, age range 4-8ish. No cheerios, no coloring books, no toys, just age appropriate missals and full, respectful attention.
Good stuff.
This video is so great.
