The Sky's the "Maximum Limit"

A couple of years ago, Cy offered ( or, if my memory serves me, "demanded") that a minimum spending amount be put on Kris Kringle gifts. His argument, "Everybody should be able to save at least $10 a month", to which - I think- all present agreed. I recall that $100 was to be the new minimum.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Everyone agreed but I doubt everyone ( including Cy) heeded that request.

But, here we are.

So, should you keep to the $100 minimum?

Now or never would be a good time to answer.

Love, Santa's Helper ( and please feel free, as always, to communicate with me via video, phone, email, text messaging or in person regarding the usual, "Do you know what he or she needs or wants?" I won't bill you until 2009 ( no interest or finance charges incrued) and such billing will be included in your post-New Year's credit statement.

I am not at all surprised that Cy "I will spend my whole savings on gifts for others" would want $100. I think that's steep for many, and would propose no limit at all.

Some of us will find something amazing and just HAVE to spend $100 on it. But you can find something great for $40 as well.

I would be VERY please to receive $40 worth of pillar/jar candles cool socks, for instance. Hint hint. Must have fire all winter!!

I think the point he was trying to make was that we ought to put though into gifts and that it's frustrating (and I have done this) when someone gives something like a DVD. We are only getting one gift for our siblings and it should count.

Along those lines...sometimes what a person realy wants/needs is not cheap. I know the idea of giving money towards something is very impersonal, but it might just be what someone wants. As long as you don't pull that every year!

Can I request that Cy gets my name this year?

Wowsers, 100 bones seems a bit steep, I second. I does agree with Annie on this. But not about the pillar/jar candles cool socks, whatever the heck those are.

Hey, Aloise is always here, Norm! Leave her alone.
And I'M the one hoping for Cy this year...I don't think he's ever picked me. But don't forget the Blanchards, remember we like to get LOTS of things for our people.

I think we've been over this spending-limit thing, and it's been decided to just not have one. Honestly, if someone who has you, doesn't have alot of money that year, and gets you something small that they've researched (w/Santa's helper's help)you should be thrilled with it. I don't believe in price tags for this kind of thing at all.
It should just be fun!

You said it Mojo. Case closed?

I think money should not even be brought up. Just don't get crappy gifts, alright?

And Maureen, could you BE any cuter? You are right, the Blanchard's gifts are always quite excellent.

And Chad and I need a house. So really, if whoever gets us two want to split us, we are happy to take a joint gift. We won't think it's cheap, I swear..

Well, I'm certainly glad I brought this up so that we can now put it to rest.

Frankly ( not Frank I hate you) speaking, you all do a wonderful job every year with your Krissy's. Being the gatekeeper of this perennial activity, I have witnessed and been privy to the creativity and thought that has gone into gifts by those who - that particular year - hadn't much money to spend.

The "thought" behind the gift has truly applied in these circumstances.

Sooo.... let the shopping begin!
(as soon as the names are picked :)
