Yes folks, school is back in session and Stag posts are back! What better way to kick off the season than with an annual fall favorite, Freshman Field Day.Each September, Kate and I (along with two fellow teachers), take the freshman class upstate to the Marist Brothers Retreat house in Esopus, New York for a day frolic and fun. The purpose of the day is to introduce the freshman to each other and to give them a glimpse into what is hilariously special about St. Agnes.
Always a success, the freshman start the day quiet and perhaps thinking Agnes is whack because it has no girls, and end it singing bad pop songs at the top of their lungs and asking when they can by a St. Agnes sweatshirt. Suckers!
Along for the ride are 25 hand-picked juniors and seniors who act as group leaders and role-models and assist us throughout the long day. These much coveted spots (seniors give up a day off!) go out to the cream of the crop and the leaders never disappoint as they blend big-brotherly affection with cool upper-classmen chic. The freshies love them!
We begin the day by boarding the the buses and heading out of the city as we try not to gloat at all the guys in uniform and going to school.

When we arrive we break the ice with a little "People Bingo" before assigning pairs of leaders their wards for the day. The trip begins on a more introspective note, as groups meet with their leaders and discuss life at St. Agnes.
And then the fun begins...
