Sunday Evening Prayer
I have been saying Evening Prayers from the Liturgy of the Hours for Lent. They cycle by week, so you reread them a few times. The Sunday Evening Prayer has managed to strike me every time, for whatever reason.
1 Corinthians 9:24-25
"While all the runners in the stadium take part in the race, the award goes to one man. In that case, run so as to win! Athletes deny themselves all sorts of things. They do this to win a crown of leaves that withers, but we a crown that is imperishable."
It should also be noted that I have been totally taken by the reality of Heaven (and Hell, of course). Thinking in terms of these realities changes everything after awhile. I would recommend it, truly. A good book for basics is Peter Kreeft's Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Heaven and C.S. Lewis's novel The Great Divorce. I have Lewis on CD if anyone wants to listen. It is really great.
Run so as to win!
