I just got back from a day-and-a-half in Boston babysitting a ship. I somehow got on YouTube listening to (watching) Emmy Lou Harris videos, and came across one where Jay Ungar was accompanying her. This led to a video of him explaining how he came to write Ashoken Farewell. Well, this led me back to a glorious day in July when this was Annie's and my song. I thought you might all be interested in seeing this clip. Jay Ungar always somehow reminds me of my father. They both graduated from the Juliard School of music in New York and subsequently left the pursuit of a career in classical music (my father went to Vermont and started farming, Jay found his vocation in "fiddling"). Jay, I think, is a happy man. My father was wasn't so happy (although he undoubtedly is now).
