Uno Mas!

Hope these posts aren't tedious for anyone. This is so much fun for me, in such a "Bad News Bears" type of way.

W. SIDE NEIGHBORS HEAD UPSTATE FOR TITLE CLASH

March 29, 2008 -- They are located just blocks apart on the Upper West Side, yet today, St. Agnes and Collegiate will meet for the boys state Federation Class B title in Glens Falls.

"Where else would you want it?" St. Agnes head coach Greg Dolan said. "I never thought we'd get here, so we don't care where it is."

Dolan's Stags have made a habit out of winning close games, and yesterday was no exception. The CHSAA B champs overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the PSAL's Secondary School, 55-51, behind 10 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks from Matt Wafula, while Collegiate, a private school on West 78th Street, pulled away from Olean in the second half to win 59-46.

Dolan guided the Stags to a city title a year ago, but the school never has advanced this far.

St. Agnes and Collegiate met on Dec. 14 in Collegiate's gym (St. Agnes doesn't have a gym of its own) and the Stags escaped with a 51-49 victory.

"When we played that game, I didn't even know the dates of this tournament," Dolan said. "This was the furthest thing from my mind. But we keep figuring out ways to win."
