First out of the bag was one black fanny pack. I obviously chuckled immediately at the sight of this because I haven't seen one of those at such close range in about 7 years. But wait...there was not one, but TWO of them in the bag. Immediately I became more intrigued and began to rifle through the rest of the pile to see what else it had for me.
I was not disappointed. Next was a pair of black jeans, and a receipt from a thrift store. Then came the oversized t-shirt and a package of keychains featuring the Twin Towers, pre-9/11. I marveled aloud, wondering how old this trashed treasure was and what the hell it was we had just found...and then the plastic bag fell out of one of the fanny pack pockets.
It was a plastic bag full of mealy old milk bones.
Immediately my mind began to race. I took a closer look at the t-shirt and found that it had a large picture of a dog on it. "Have a Heart," it said. Keep in mind we'd discovered by this time that there were two of everything, which added up to the following: 2 matching black fanny packs, 2 pairs of black straight-leg jeans, 2 oversized "Have a Heart" t-shirts, 1 receipt from the Salvation Army, and 2 plastic sandwich bags of several-year-old milk bones (there was also a bag of prunes, but that's besides the point).
Thinking out loud, I said, "Wait, Mom...do I correctly remember once hearing about Mary and Chad's Halloween a few years back, something about them walking around as...white trash animal rescuers?" I mean I couldn't tell you the story myself, but seeing the full costume right before me down to the very last moldy dog treat was enough to jog my memory.
So Mary and Chad, what I'm wondering is, does this look familiar to you?

HA HA! I did NOT hear that story. Any other treasures unearthed Shmalzy?
You don't know how much we laughed! At one point Dad and I entertained the idea of dressing up in these outfits and posing for the camera! But no one can pull this off like the originals, right?
Good job, Aloise!
