All Snowed In and Nowhere to Go

I am making Mom's maccaroni and cheese, finishing up Christmas cards, listening to the Three Tenors' Christmas, drinking wine, and hanging with my husband.

What are you doing?

I'm sitting in a hotel room in Boston waiting for the storm to let up so a ship can come and I can go on board and act important for a while. It now looks like the ship won't come in before tomorrow morning. Could you send over some of your wine?

Just came in from placing orange markers on perimiter of driveway for plower tomorrow...Brent called from Baltimore to remind me. I hope I got it right....snow deep and driveway covered, an optical illusion and I looked like a snow man by the time I was done. My house is cozy and Messiah playing, but I'm here alone. Lisette on her way - hopefully - and I'll be back out to shovel end of drive for her...but now putting my mind to Chrtistmas dinner and goodies...Cy arriving here tomorrow just in time (our Santa this year, you'll see why) and sounds like it's been a perfect pre-Christmas day for you,Martha, :)

I'm finishing our Christmas pictures for our cards that will go out hopefully tomorrow, drinking a glass of wine with Frank who came home early from work, feeding my kids, doing some painting in the kitchen, and hopefully wrapping presents later this evening if I can stay awake.

Don't be jealous, but my presents have been wrapped for a week in lieu of kids being around from now on till christmas.
Made big breakfast for kids for dinner with Jim, kids out in snow playing after dark and having a blast, and Ann's christmas tape on while we clean up kitchen. Then it's back to shoveling for Jim...again!

Only partly jealous, b/c I love wrapping presents! Esp. when I have plenty of time (as with most things, it takes far longer than I estimate.)

OH, and listening to my current fave Pandora station: O Holy Night, Pavarotti

We even got snow in Brooklyn! We're putting together our Christmas cards, dinner in the works, drinking, and listening to the ipod on shuffle. I think I'll make the switch to Christmas music. But that won't make up for our lack of a snow-covered red barn. Nope.

I'm on my first evening of Christmas break and enjoying the quiet, snowy Brooklyn night just 200 steps away from where the Buris are hatching up their cards. I am sipping a whiskey, listening to Baroque Chamber music, and happily envisioning you all going about your late Advent, early winter chores.

Nope, no red barn, but a snowy fire escape looking out on a quiet "courtyard" has its romance.

First of all, Dad- in Boston? What the H?

And I have now had a few glasses of wine. Chad and I are paying Wii bowlling. We used to play when he first got it, but it has been a couple of years now. I feel like it is so much fun. Well, mostly because he secretly went into the other room and started playing The Smiths' "louder that Bombs" for me. Holy Moley. Go revisit. Go revisit. Thanks Ann for inititaing the love years back.

I love snow days.

And THEN you mention Louder than Bombs.

I'm telling you... gourmet and cheesy ws. All wrapped in a big all beef hot dog.

I was asked by Debbie to do something "festive" and though I had no desire to, well, she just really seemed to be making an effort. So at 7 when you posted this, I had just put Maggie down and left the house to go to the mal, and Target, and Toys R Us, and Shop Rite to return and buy things. Well to watch her do that. It wasn't so bad, but I sure did want to spend that time reading the 3rd installment of the Twilight series and maybe sleep.

BTW, all we got was rain, and rain, and more stinking rain all day. To think, instead of being trapped inside, I could have been playing in the snow for the first time w/ Maggie.
