An Invitation to My Brothers

I've been thinking lately about us.  I mean the men and lads in the family.  Some of us are local, some of us are scattered.  But wouldn't it be nice to have a gathering of the brethren to relax and talk and fish and drink together?  I called Cy a little while ago with the suggestion and he's all for it.  I propose we rent a cabin on a lake in June.  All males in the family from Charlie on up.  I'm thinking Andrew would be a good candidate for scoping out such a place.  What do you say?

I love this idea, I couldn't love it more. I have had the distinct privilege to watch boys, young men, form the deepest of friendships simply because they got to spend time with each other without girls. It is extraordinary, really.

And it goes without saying that men need women as women need men--what a wonderful compliment we are to each other! But women can bond anywhere, it's how we are built. But you men, you need your space and you need your friendships and there are such awesome men in our family.

(I mean Allegro is a weak link, but, take the good with the bad.)

Do this!!

(I heart you Chad B.)

Leo, you are excluded buddy. Scared for LIFE.

Me, too...love the idea!
But don't you think "Charlie on up" a little too much?
I mean, can you REALLY do what you want with (potentially) Luke, Cyrus, Luca, Patrick and Charlie?
More like "Daddy-Care" than "Brethren-Time".
Just a thought.

I'd say Andrew and Will...and the other boys when their time comes.

And you're so right, Clare: Women can do this anywhere at anytime. Men? Not so easy.

You guys are tops! (Even you, Chad).

SUCH a good idea!!

(ChadB, bring those cheesy wieners and you'll win them over no sweat!)

Why don't you go to Brent and Norma's country place?!

Unfortunately our lakehouse from last year's vacation was all booked up! But we can definitely keep looking for this guys' weekend. So important for bonding, outdoorsy things. Jimmy'll take the boat.
I will say that Nora has a point...to a point. The little guys, it's important for them too. But if the mom's aren't around to give the big lads a break, you won't have any reall fun, trust me!:>)
Dad, you all need to talk on the phone and def plan this!

Annie, I remember when you first mentioned the cheesy weiner joke... it did not go over very well. But I am pleased that it has lived on.

If Chuck isn't invited, I'm available to babysit. Forever.

I don't agree about the younger boys. They're not that young.

Anyway, the dads get a break every time they go to work. To think that it would overwhelm them to be in charge of their kids with the help of Dad and Brent and Andrew and Will and the great outdoors...?

Cry me a meandering river in the woods. :>)

I was roused from my morning massage at work and alerted to your comment, Annie. I couldn't agree more!

In fact, in many ways, Leo is much better prepared for this sort of expedition than me. His indiscriminate biting would eventually land on some form of sustenance whereas I will be running from mosquitoes like some kind of Benny Hill sketch.

Truly, I think it's a great idea - especially on St. Joe's Day and for the start for Spring. Luca and I are in.

Now if you'll excuse me, if I miss my first nap of the day I'll be a real grumplepuss until lunch.

That was MY COMMENT....not Nora's.
(It's what happens when someone else uses the computer and doesn't check out...)
Anyway, I'm just Ma.
Parents? Do yo' thing!

What's with the "male bonding" bullshit?

I'm thinking that Cy's family will be here for a visit during this time?

Still think taking the younger lads a mistake (you just won't have as much fun) sooooo....

....if Cy's family is here, and Sean and Chad (Buri) can make it...how fun would it be if Mary, Charlie, Catherine, Nora and Maggie also came HERE for that wknd.?

We could split kids btw. Maureen's and the Homestead; Cy and Cathi's at Maureen's and then here when Buri's and O'Mahoney's leave Sunday/Monday.

The younger cousins would finally have a chance to hang out together ABSENT an event.

Pool. Park. Backyard. LIttle People. Meals on the grill.
And Ma, Mom's and Aunties enjoying coolers on the patio.

Hmmmm

It's true. Life is less free when you have kids in tow... but how come you think it would be fun for US to have ALL the kids? Sounds like a hot mess to me.

And a heavily prego Cathy and Mary with two little ones in tow... Methinks by that point, Mary and Cathy will need a break more than their husbands will.

I know you did it a million times mom. But tell me you ever actually enjoyed it?

I doubt it, says Bob.

However, all the other parts sound great : )

6 mos. pregnant...not so bad. And many more hands available to help with the little ones.

Anyway...just thought a nice idea for the cousins since you gals speak so often about them not being able to get together.

ME? I get to see your little one's on a pretty regular basis and will hopefully have time with Cyrus and Patrick...so this isn't really about me.

Seriously....doesn't matter to me. Was just a suggestion and an invitation to use the house if you all want to. ;)

My bad on the use of the word "bonding" and thanks for the bullshit shout out, Dad.

Friendship, the word is, friendship! A good, virile word indeed.

Holy, moly it stinks to have grown up in PC wishy washy feminized world your whole life.

(And no, I am not down on females...shout out to my ladies!)

Shmalzy said...

The word "feminized" makes me want to vomit up the required reading for my women's studies class (although I think that's your point, Clare).

This is a great idea!
(I'm a little late but I was called out for my absense on BMills last night so there it is)

What, you don't think Charlie and his dropping the F bomb would fit in well with this all-male atmosphere Mom!?!

Mars said...

I'm late commenting, but Mom and Annie you both obviously have valid points. It's funny, Mom's thought was my first thought. Then I read Annie's response and said, hey, yes! It's funny how much the mothers take upon ourselves. Well, how much is given us, really. And we swallow it with grace (most of the time). Now I'm not trying to cry a river, but holy moly it's true that it wouldn't kill the fathers to take their own boys on a trip with them (as long as we're talking a roof over heads and running water here—and if Frank is in, I assume that's a safe assumption). To give US a break for once—that would be an idea. The reason my first thought was Mom's, to leave the boys behind, is obvious. The trip may not be 100% grown-up time for the guys otherwise. But then I thought: a trip. A TRIP! A TRIP WITH OTHER ADULTS AND NO KIDS! Oh, how good that sounds. And oh how feasible it seems for fathers to plan. But us? Yeah, not going to happen.

But I'd happily take the kids to Mom's. That WOULD be a treat to see everyone and have the cousins spend time together. So I'm in.

Oh, and though it kills me to speak for him, Chad is stoked about this trip idea.

You go too far madame! How I've gained this farcical reputation and become the object of so much ridicule, I will never know. And it's just with you people - it shocks others to learn it! I was just telling the girls at my last pedi/mani about these vicious lies and they were stunned.

I will say, mars, you certainly are developing quite a habit of "being late".

The Captain said...

Stop picking on Frank, he's or canary in the mine: "Hey Frank, how about bringing in some fire wood." To the others: "Now we'll know if the gnats are biting."

It's amusing how you women are planning our simple outing.

The Captain said...

I spoke to Charley and Luca about their being left behind. They were NOT amused.

Mars said...

I'll give you late, Frank.

Annie said...

Mary's late... ha ha...

And in the end, I'll be thrilled to spend time w/the ladies with or without the 2's and up crowd :)
Whatever will work best.
