WE WON!!
They were on fire last night. The witnesses were wonderful and with the judge not calling time, many of them had to last through 10-15 minute crosses, but they held their own and were pretty funny at times. It was a marathon match, lasting over 2 1/2 hours but they stayed alert and professional. (One guess as to the first thing I did when I got home...)
Lawyers Rafael and Jorge were especially fine, with Jorge pulling out all the stops and not missing a beat. I actually didn't realize he could be that good, I almost started laughing at some of the stuff he pulled.
Our competition was also VERY good and a nice, professional team to compete against. I felt pretty confident that it was our match, but it was close and when the judge called it for us we were very relieved.
So onward my best boys! Let's see where it takes us, it's spring after all!
Our fans, sophomores Eddie, Willy, and Edwin. Willy, who is super smart, has a great vocabulary, is interested in EVERYTHING and his hilarious and good, wants to be on Mock Trial next year. He has come to every competition ("I gotta lot to learn, Miss!") and has already learned some objections. Last night he decided to keep an official score sheet of sustained and overruled objections for each team.
While we waited for the judges ruling, we already knew we had it in the bag.... Willy, your hired man.
We go right into Round 5 competition on Monday so we are meeting after school today to strategize. We are all eagerly waiting to hear which side we have to argue as well as get our scores, ranking, and competition.
I'll keep you posted.
(Oh yeah, the lawyer that helps us out is an awesome guy and has worked with us for a few years. He works at the D.A's office which had their "fantasy baseball" pool scheduled for last night. All 40 attorneys agreed to reschedule so he could come to our match, and they are ALL rooting for us. Sweet.)
Go Stags.
