Homestead Filming

Dad sent me an email last week to tell me that I would be receiving a present from him. I couldn't imagine what he might have gotten for me but did commend him on his discretion: that he hadn't told me what this present was.

Voila! My present! (But mine is white).

This is the absolute coolest camcorder. Sooo easy to use. HD quality to boot!

The same day my Flip was delivered, I had an AT&T tech here who was hooking us up for "bundling". Only big change there (electronically) is how the TV works, figuring out the remote and learning all the features.

Why do I mention this? Because I am not a tech gal. In fact, new technology so overwhelms me that I actually fear the learning process. I have to take all of it in stages, navigate all of it with baby steps.

I went out to the pool and said to Andrew ( my new cutie friend), "Andrew, look what Poppi got me. A Flip!" And that's all I had to say because I KNEW he would know exactly what I was talking about even though I had never heard the name and had previously had no idea of this contraption. Immediately Andrew responded with, "Is it the ...?" asking me which version I had.

Kids.

With Brent's help I began to record Dad's roses and Clematis, my thought being that I would film their progress and then add a "thank you" before I downloaded it and sent it to him. It almost worked. Rather than "pause" and record an on-going video, I had "stopped" and recorded new videos every time I wandered to a different garden location. I had 8 videos. They were lovely...but I had 8 of them.

As well, I wanted to tape the boys in the pool. Well. When I played it back I saw that I had the "record" button on the whole time I was walking to the pool and setting up; knees, feet, grass, pool steps..and me telling the boys what I had in mind. The entire taping of the boys swimming and talking to Dad was not there.

I did say that this was such an easy machine to use, didn't I?

Know thyself, Sister.

I am still slightly awed and overwhelmed. But as soon as I get over the shakes and trembles, I will produce movies for all to see. Dad has included a cable so that it can be hooked up to the TV. (That thing on the side is how you hook it up to the computer...you hook up the camera).

And did I mention how cute the Flip is? Only slightly larger than my cell phone.

I'm a happy girl.

My dear,

Surely you can get one of your tech-friendly kids to help you post an example of your cinematic prowess. Perhaps some close-ups of roses and such?

Rained and poured and rained some more - all day today.
But tomorrow will be sunny; I'll try my hand at doing it all by myself. :)
