Mike sent me a text about an hour ago asking for my e-mail address so that he could send me a blog post about Lisette. I wasn't expecting such a great update! I'll leave the rest to Dyer...

Dear Brewsters,
Mike Dyer here. In the past, Lisette would never let me post on your blog (despite my repeated requests) because she said I wasn’t allowed. Well, now Lisette's in Africa, I want to post, Aloise agreed to post on my behalf, and Lisette can’t do a darn thing about it, muaahahahahaha. Well anyways, just had a wonderful conversation w/ Lisette via email and I wanted to pass along some of the things we discussed.

1. Lisette is currently safe and sound in Africa. She got her placement at Katarina’s Children’s Home in Nairobi. It’s not the rural placement she was looking for, but she think it’s going to be good because she will be living w/ lots of volunteers, most of whom are college aged. Also she will be teaching 7 and 8 year olds which she’s pretty excited about.

2. She’s currently living in a ceramic house, that has a working bathroom. She described the bathroom as “nasty”, but she’s excited because she was able to take a 45 second cold shower this a.m.

3. In two weeks she’ll be going on safari and she might go to “Mombasa” (no idea what that is but it sounds nice) this weekend

4. She is getting a phone tomorrow. If you would like to call her she suggests pingo.com, I guess they have really good rates. Also she can receive text messages for free, and she suggests we call her because its cheaper (please be advised it will not be cheaper for you, just her)

5. She has yet to see any lions

6. They took her out for Chinese food today, but Lisette didn’t eat much because she said she was nervous and stressed. In the mornings “mama” comes to their living quarters and makes them eggs w/ pineapple and bananas.

7. I’ll defer to Lisette to explain this one:
“the driving is nuts!! no stop signs at all and they all just merge together in intersections and somehow get out alive. also, everyone smells. i showered this morning... so i don't smell.. today at least :)”

8. Lisette is very homesick and misses you all. She said she’s going to take everything 2 weeks at a time, and see how things go. I have complete confidence in her and I know she’s going to persevere. I’m very proud of her.

Hope this finds you well, and I look forward to continuing to stalk your family blog.

All the best,

Mike

Thank you Mike!!

I came home from work to find 2 emails from Lisette - I thought I'd have to reach the heavens to find my heart...it leapt that high.

And then this; thank you sooo much, Mike. And Aloise; I would have disowned you had you not given Mike "his space".

Wow. Lisette is in Africa!

Thank you, Mike! Email me your email and I will officially invite you to Brewsters Millions. THe one caveat is that you have to come up with a pretty awesome profile picture (mary.e.b.buri@gmail.com). Lisette, what a stinge.
SOOOOOO good to hear from Lisette. I've been thinking about her nonstop and am SO glad she's gotten through the trip and the first night. She actually sounds great!

Thank you, Mike. Lisette has been on my mind since last week and it's so nice to have a picture of what she's dealing with. Sounds a bit rugged, but I suppose that's stating the ovious!

So proud of you Lisette, you'll do great. Deep breaths (especially in the ice showers!)

Keep us..ahem.. posted, Mike.
