You're birthday party was such a joyful event. I know you basked in the afterglow for days and days.
But today is your birthday for "real life". You mentioned last night that you had had your party, that you really didn't need a birthday post. Do you know me? :)
My goodness. How is it possible that this handsome young lad is now 70?
When Dad was born, Grandpa was in the Air Force, stationed in Texas. Mary was given (and lent to me) letters written to and by Grandpa ~ letters to and from Granny and his sister Peg. Included were also letters from Granny to Peg. Here I add a couple of missives:
Granny wrote this to Peg, when Dad was 2 months old:
"Every night I plan to write but have had such a wild time with that son of mine I never get there. Had to wean him right off and then the formula seems to make him so gassy he had stomach aches most of the time & I have been up nite and day. Gains nicely, 10 1/2 lbs. He is lovely and bright even when he hasn't gas."
And Grandpa wrote his sister Peg later:
"The praise and admiration you accorded my son were most satisfactory, tho of course not unexpected, for he is, beyond doubt, a "most remarkable child." I wouldn't have it otherwise. Kidding aside, he must be quite a bit different now than he was when I left, having now had a chance to shake himself out as it were and settle down to being a real baby, instead of a new little mite. And of course when I left he was badly upset on the business of food. You can imagine how I long to see him!"
I used to long to see you too, when you would leave for months and months. And now I see you every day and am often serenaded, (visualize me with my hands covering my ears!) first thing in the morning, to the latest sappy hymn sung at St Martha's morning masses.
Things don't change.
And I wouldn't change any of it for the world.
Happy Birthday, Quasar.
PS.
Mary commented on Dad being weaned at 2 months. Here is what Grandpa writes regarding the "little mite":
" I think I might have Eva come home with the baby Sat, the 7th (11 days in the hospital) and we were going to bring the baby to Wallingford to be baptized the end of the week.
Saturday night, after they came home, the baby got all upset and cried a good part of the night. It seemed that Eva's milk didn't agree with him. Of course she was upset about my leaving and it may have reflected in the milk. But she's afraid she may have to wean him. I do hope not, for both their sakes."

Happy Birthday, Dad!
Oh my word, hearing young mama Granny and dad Grandpa talking about you as their little baby. Highlight of the day.
But, poor, bubba, you were weaned at 2 months! :(
I just added something Grandpa wrote regarding Mary's comment.
Wow, Cy. 70 years later and your children are discussing you being weaned...
Happy Birthday, Dad! I love you.
Oh, how I love this post. Happy Birthday, little mite.
I don't even know what to say about this post. I love it!
Happy Birthday Dad! I love you!!
(Also, Luca really does look like you, I can see it in the violin picture. It's just hidden in the Frankness of him.)
Happy Birthday, Dad! Sorry I missed this yesterday.
Hearing Grandpa's concern about Dad and Granny and the milk. Oh heavens.
