Happy BIrthday, Cy :)

Lisette came for dinner tonight and Dad, she and I got to talking.

John Denver had been our background music during cocktails outdoors and I asked Dad how come, since I can't recall when was the last time we listened to John Denver through cocktails and dinner.
"I haven't listened to John Denver for a long time, " answered Dad, and then, "It brings back a lot of memories."
So many of those memories revolve around Granner, of course.  These memories of a time before we would play John Denver in the house while you, the older kids, would sing and dance to the tunes.

John Denver. So many memories.

And that's how we got to talking about Granner ~ because Lisette asked and Dad offered.
Lisette was fascinated by the relationship between Granner and Dad, one that began much earlier than the relationship between Dad and me. They talked some more.

At some point during this conversation I asked Lisette had I ever told her about the time, in Spain, during the Summer Institute program that Granner put on, which Dad came to...had I ever told her about the time Granner pointed Dad out to me and said, "I like him", as in, I'm going get to know this Cy Brewster better.

Lisette asked about ages.  How old was Granner then? 42.  How old was Dad? 25

That's when I went to refrigerator and brought her this picture of Dad, taken that summer in Spain.  (To the left is a young Ed Andrews.  Annie's Godfather whom, you may recall, came to her wedding.)

Lisette immediately exclaimed, "We ALL look like you!"  At which point the conversation turned from talking about Granner and Dad to talking about the strong resemblance you all have to your father.

"I see me in this picture!  And, wow, Brent," continued Lisette.  Replied Dad, looking at the picture,  "That's the watch I gave Brent, the Rolex"

It was at this point that I decided I had to post something for Dad, for his birthday.  A stranger birthday post you will probably not find on this family blog.  But things come when they come, and this came to me as we 3 were eating the birthday cupcakes Lisette brought for Dad, Lisette gushing over this picture.

So here I am trying to do some justice to this greeting because I haven't time tomorrow to do anything;  I won't even be here tomorrow for Dad's birthday....the birthday he would rather just pass him by.  And that's OK.  I get that.  But then I see this picture and remember that time and so many times "back then" and Lisette goes nuts over the resemblance you all have to your "young" Dad, and, well...what can I say.

Cy: this picture was taken immediately as you hit the bull's eye.  In fact, hahaha, it was your prize for hitting the bull's eye.

I can't say that I've ever hit any bull's eyes, at least not with a rifle.  (Did pretty well with a bow and arrow in High School, but that's another story)  And I have no idea if any our children have hit a target straight on, as you did here.

But I do know this:
We all hit a bull's eye with you.  All of us.

And we all love you and want to wish you a Happy Birthday, no matter what.
