Late Summer Reading (and other thoughts)

Talked to Chad and I think he would agree with me that just about anything from Flannery O'Connor would be good. I think we agreed that her book of correspondence (A Habit of
Being) is a great intro to her. This was around 10PM so I might be a little off. We went from there to thoughts on the Mass and JPII (and somewhere also a discussion of the merits of fiddle playing) and were about to get to B16 when the neighbor with the pony tail interrupted us. If I'm not mistaken, Chad and I tacitly agreed that the Good Lord wanted us to talk to the pony tail more than He wanted us to talk about B16. I also think that Chad was spared from hearing me repeat myself through the rather opaque lens of Old Grandad. Uncle Walker Percy is also a perennial favorite. Had a wonderful time with all of you (didn't you think Maureen's dress was perfect?) Still wished I had found a better way of stressing the theme of the day which was sacramentality (Hint: think ontological difference after ex opere operanto takes effect). Or if it's easier, think of a lightning strike which is survived (I think Clare came to my rescue pretty successfully). Lord, how may times has lightning struck me and then after a good shake of the head I was able to get right back to good old comfortable mediocrity. Thank Mercy for Mercy!! Anyway, I'm all for seriousness as Don Corleone would say. So let's keep trying to be "serious" with all the fun allowed (Catholics have the best "in" jokes).

Off soon and woun't be able to check in here 'til October. Please, everyone stay loving and serious and funny, and build up the ties that bind.

Flanner O'Connor was a must-read on my list when I was 18 and Lorenzo had taken me under his wing to further my love for the faith and all good things.

And I loved this post, Cy.

Wedding receptions - all gatherings, for that matter - are crazy affairs, in that we seldom know what others were up to while we up were up to doing our own thing. I liked reading about your thing.
