While decorating the tree tonight (jealous?), Dad, Mom, Brent and I were discussing who was old enough to be getting stockings this year. The tradition has depleted over the years for obvious reasons, but I think we should bring it back. I personally love stockings and everything that goes with them -- the instant gratification, the sifting through of the stupid items inside, and also the Christmas where Mom got us three youngest Disney character shampoo bottles (Aloise got Jasmine, Brent get Aladdin, I got the Beast....).
Anywho, we thought it would be cool if made stockings for our Kris Kringles! Nothing big, just add their favorite candy or snack, maybe make a CD, etc, etc. I think it would be a lot of fun to see each other's creative sides. We could get the stockings to Mom before Christmas and she would lay them out for us in the morning with just the recipients name. Of course this brings up those who won't be there for Christmas, but we could work those kinks out. We all liked the idea. Thoughts???

I don't know, man. I mean I love the idea, but I think I shall vote no. Things like stocking stuffers can get way expensive, and can really add up fast just to make it cool. And I know for me, I already spent the money that I am going to on my little schnook of an elf.
I think if you want to get cool and creative, just do so along with the gift. But no pressure of making it a rule type thing.
Am I being Captain Gloom here? I am trying to be realistic.
I so love stockings though.
This elf will also be adding items to those stockings, y'know.
I will admit that as the years go by, it becomes more difficult to come up with ideas. ( I had forgotten about those Disney shampoo bottles. Boy, I was pretty good, wasn't I? And: remember the fresh pineapples and the baby fruit jars? Man. I was REALLY good!)
But we're talkling tidbits here. Candies your SS's like...or cookies...or the random CD....or a picture...or favorite lip gloss...or deodorant...or silly putty ( for when your boss wants you to be a Disney character and you want to smash in his head!)...or floam ( so that you can pulverize the idiot)...this spells "creativiy" and fun; not a lot of money.
If you all decide to do this, maybe you can agree on a price range ( I think Lisette was talking no more than $10, give or take).
As far as those not here: if Cy, Cathi, Sean and Nora agree to this, they have plenty of time to send something ( to me ) and you all have plenty of time to send something to them. ( and I can add to it)
Should I not be getting involved in this?
Stocking stuffing can really be a lot of fun. Stressful sometimes, but fun.
I think it's a great idea. I'll probably skip the CD route myself (sorry Kris) but I love the idea of contributing a few cute items and some candy.
If this is agreed upon soon enough, I'll probably just bring the stuff w/ me along with my gifts this weekend.
Sorry to be Captain Gloom with Martha, but I vote no,too.
Really, really sorry guys. But I agree that you can't do a cool stocking for ten dollars. Never mind getting the stockings themselves. And I have 7 stockings I put together here already (including John and Jack who we see christmas am.)
Love the idea, though! Just don't want to spend the extra dinero, sorry.
I Do have stockings here....in case this becomes a go.
I have to say, though, that I DO understand the 2 negatives...especially Maureen who has so many stockings to put together.
So, if this is something you all want to do, I think I have maybe 7 of your stockings to contribute.
I propose a twist. If you have something you want to put into people's stocking, for whatever reason (you have a CD some people might like, or a picture, or you make a mean snowflake ornament) go for it.
I hear everyone on the money, especially the wedding planning girl.
But no, I don't agree that you can't do a cool stocking for $10. We're not talking about putting together a full stocking, just adding fun things to Mom's existing stocking.
So, for my vote: No on the Secret Santa tie-in (unless that's what an individual wants to do). But a big jolly pregnant belly YES on it being a fabulous idea!
And yes, I do remember the Disney shampoo... the heads came off if I recall. Mom, you are the QUEEN of Christmas gifts, let alone stockings. I am in awe every time I think of what you managed to put together every year.
I agree with everyone, sortaaa.
On a separate note, while I do love Mom's Christmas gifts, my mentioning of the Disney character heads was more for the fact that I got the Beast. Sure, Aloise was more girly than me growing up, but come on people.. the Beast?!?! What, you can't pick another Disney princess?? Ciderella, Ariel, Snow White.. a dalmation would have been more feminine.
I kid, Mom.
Love the stockings idea! But not for our Kris Kringles, because it's an overdose. I'd rather have the opportunity to get something little for someone else.
How about a grab-bag type thing. Whoever wants to participate can bring a few cheapo items. Mom (Santa) can put them in a pile and distribute them in the stockings.
And like Ann said, if you have something in mind for someone in partikilar, tell Mom what she can do with it.
Love this idea!!
Lisette translated into Mary + Annie = YES!
Sounds good to me!
