These handsome fellows are heading into 3rd round competition in a few hours and it is single elimination at this point. 48 teams out of 115 that started are left. The top 16 have a bye into Round 4, so 32 will move on after today. We will be arguing for the defense and have been working all week on strengthening our case and sealing up any gaps.
I feel just super about our case and am certain that we will present well this evening. If we lose it is simply because the other team presented better, I can deal with that. A win, however, would bring us to Round 4 and we have only been there once as a school. We managed it by dumb luck my first year, competing against truly bad schools. I would love another shot at it. I would just love to see what we could do....
In my first years at Agnes the attitude (albeit loving) was that "there was only so much we could do with the Stags." But I see things differently. Choose the right team, create the bonds, say all the time "You can do this! We can do this," while reminding them that if we don't--No worries, that has purpose too! And then make fun of each other and laugh. You can get a lot with that, I have gotten so much with that.
We have made one change to our defense line up--switching out my sophomore, hot mess, Dalin (who scored to perfect 5's last week) with my boy and senior captain, Jorge.
If we do lose it is our last competition so I asked Jorge, (shown above on retreat with friend and teammate Dimitri) if he would like another chance to compete. He said, "That would be great, but I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings."I feel just super about our case and am certain that we will present well this evening. When I asked Dalin (above) if he would mind stepping down and letting Jorge compete since he has 2 more years of competion, he said, "Miss, seriously, whatever is best for the team."
True gents.
As to our competition? A fancy, prestigious all boys school from the Upper East Side. Paris Hilton's brother graduated from there, as well as the owner of the NYTimes.
I will leave it at that.
Clearly the pressure is getting to these guys--this was filmed just a few minutes ago. I better go try and take the heat off.
Go Stags, go!
