Thursday evening in Solesmes

Aloise and Gertie outside the Church as we gathered after Vespers Thursday afternoon.

Michael, Aloise and Mercedes enjoying a drink as Dad, Maureen and I prepared for the feast to come. Aloise commented later, "We just eat and eat and eat. That's all we do; we eat."

I don't think Dad knew I was taping him when I took this video. It's a bit long but worth the watch.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Michael left us at 7:30 and we lingered on to well past midnight. We were all hurting a little the next morning - a travel day for us all. Michael commented, "So what? It's a good sign that it was a good evening spent well."

The girls were all driving back to Aloise's home in Germany, Maureen and Mercedes staying to visit with her for a few days. They left just before Mass and Dad and I headed back to Paris shortly after 1. We had decided to take the scenic route ( we had Miss Garmin, after all) and it was nice, but added an extra hour to our travel. Not necessarily a bad thing until you consider that we lost an added hour in crazy Paris traffic.

As I said earlier, our time in Solesmes was good. Very good. I think we'll be reaping the benefits for quite a while.

And, God willing, we'll be returning next year. Probably in September. Uncle Michael had asked all of us at the start of "cocktail hour" to say what we hoped for or expected in our lives next time we met in Solesmes. He commented that this seemed to be the new "meeting" place for all of us. My wish was that Annie and Frank would be there, with us, next year. If you had seen the smiles that appeared on everyone's face and the nodding of heads...
And, gosh, wouldn't that just be something!

I'm dying of jealousy. Oh, I would love for me and Frank to go next year. I think it will have to wait some years though, but always a goal of ours. Right now I dream of my family in one house. (Heck, might not want to leave my house for months once that happens.)

I love the video to see old friends, breaking bread. then again, I"m also dying of jealousy for that French bread...
