Caption Contest: Baby Buri Needs a Name

Well, I guess it's not really a caption contest with no picture...

But seriously, our new little lady needs naming.

Let the suggestions begin! The parents will be SOOO thrilled for the input, I'm sure!!

Caption This

I know it's belated, but this is my favorite picture from Luke's birthday party. There are actually some really sweet ones (and a video) that I plan on posting after I reboot my computer, but it's being unreasonably slow right now. But I couldn't resist sharing this one with you, and figured it would liven up BM a little bit.

I won't try to have the eloquent introduction that make Frank's caption contests so memorable since my poor attempt at imitation would probably just be embarrassing, but since no one (myself included) has taken much initiative in posting anything lately aside from Mom's recent hilarious account of Lisette's latest obsession, I figured you all would have enough time on your hands to come up with something marginal. Or, if not, there's no way you won't at least enjoy the photo.

And apparently THIS was how Luke felt about my rollerskate present.

Where Are They Now? A Dialogue Towards a Deeper Understanding

We're just shy of 11 months of Brewsters MIllions. We've laughed, we've cried, we've shared at a lot of baby pictures. A LOT.

And we've wondered: Where the heck are Catherine, Cy, Cathy and Brent?

Yes folks, below we have the remaining lineup of the non-participants:

Now, lest we get offended that in 11 months none of the above have done so much as COMMENT on our dear blog, I propose we put ourselves in their shoes. After all, there are MANY things that could keep any one of us from even clicking on the Brewsters Millions link on our bookmarks -- what! you don't have it bookmarked??

But I digress. In a spirit of charity, I propose that we explore the many reasons our beloved sisters and brothers have ignored, nay spurned this joint effort to stay in touch.

And thus, the challenge to YOU dear fellow blogger is to tell us:
What are they doing that is keeping them from partaking???

Yours in an effort to understand,
Annie

And the winner is....

First of all, there aren't as many entries to chose from this time, thanks to Ann,Martha,Aloise, and Lisette not participating, not to mention Maggie's own mother.

However, I still had plenty of good one's to work with...

Third place goes to Mary! Any slam at Paris is fine with me.

Second place goes to my wife!! Babies are supposed to love their mother's every smell, but they're still human,Nora, so keep it clean.

And First place goes to Clare!!! We all know she'll be shaking Poppie off with a stick for the rest of her life. I don't know if I'm supposed to give out any sort of prize, but I gladly hand you my robes to judge the next caption contest,Clare. Be careful with this power, and don't let it run to your head!

Love,Jimmy (I know this will say posted by Maureen, Andrew really needs to help me set up my own name here.)

Natural and Blonde

If you're lucky, maybe once in your lifetime you'll see an unknown player emerge seemingly from nowhere and dominate the game when the stakes are highest. This week, from the cornfields of East Longmeadow, there came a post and a man that set Brewster's Millions on its sweet, buttery ears. Some would call him a Natural. We struggle to search our memories for an adequate precedent. When is the last time something like Jim's post was both a first and a phenomenal effort?

Thirty years ago the Boston Red Sox called up a young outfielder named Fred Lynn who took the American League by storm and garnered not only Rookie of the Year honors but also MVP - a feat still unmatched [103 runs, 47 doubles, and a gawdy .566 slugging percentage; second in batting, with a .331 average, swatted 21 home runs with 105 RBI and 175 hits]. The 23 year old Lynn joined Fisk and Yaz and brought the Red Sox to the very edge of their first world series crown in 57 years... only to fall short to Cincinnati's Big Red Machine. Despite their own magical run, so too Jim and his entry fall just short. He came so painfully close, the decision was even more excruciating than this extended metaphor.

My darling young Annie, I suppose this makes you Pete Rose. I realize this erodes all credibility I ever had (if any) with the community but I have in fact named my wife the winner. In fairness it was Mary's choice too which probably doesn't help my cause. Anyway, the other bloggers may come at me with pitchforks and torches, Ann, so I need to write fast. Congrats on a great post. Jim made me laugh more but yours was just a little more refined and found amusing common ground between two disparate subjects. Good form, old man.

A close third goes to the Captain incidentally. Definitely the most influential post - it set the tone for the rest to come. At first blush I was going to name this entry as the winner. But as you've likely noticed I can't do anything fast (assuming I can do it at all-does it involve being outdoors?). So my deliberation hurt your cause but it was a post good enough to win on most days.

Now, young Jas. Blanchard, you have a raw talent, son. And I think I speak for the rest of the establishment when I say we would love to see it develop. So, for your 2nd place prize, I hand over the judging of the next caption contest to you. I hope it will instill an appreciation and interest in Brewsters Millions that will result in many posts to come. Knock the cover off the blog, Hobbs.

Jim you will have to work with Ann on that contest as I pass the reigns of all Caption Contests in their totality to Ann to administer according to the whims of her unique caprice. That's the first place prize and the price you pay for the talent you flaunt. You wear the daddy pants now. Unlike Pete Rose you gambled and actually won. Enjoy. Also, I think that post warrants another modest prize when I find one that's just right (possibly your own red leotards - that's a nice look).

Go ahead, make my week

Before the winner is announced (I’m still deliberating over three or four entries), there is the not so small matter of judgment for our two non-compliers. Personally, I espouse the philosophy that discipline should be corrective not punitive. It’s not about being tough it’s about tough love. Take Ann for instance. She hasn’t always been the docile, domestic, “keep things to myself and speak when spoken to” type. No sir. That took time, patience and firm resolve. Some of you may remember a time when she was rather willful even (It’s true). But it’s a system that works. So in the spirit of reconciliation and rehabilitation, I have determined an appropriate punishment for Lisette and Chad (WHN).

You will engage in a mano y mano battle to the blog death. Your task is to come up with as many reasons as possible as to why the other person did not enter the contest and tell us what they were doing instead. Post them in the comments section unless you’re moved to create your own post. Ideally I would like this to devolve into a back and forth barrage of name calling.

Bloggers in good favor are also invited to submit your own entries and help these two poor lost souls along. Let’s break them down to build them back up.

I don’t want to insult the rest of the group but I am afraid I have to give a deadline for THIS too. I know this won’t be a problem as the both of them will be anxious to make amends. Do it by Thursday midnight and make them good. Don’t think you’ll fly under the radar on this. Unless…do you feel lucky? Well, do you, punks?

Caption Contest

You know the drill. The person who comes up with the best caption for this photo wins a prize from Frank. He's the judge. I only humbly submit this photo.

All entries must be posted by midnight this Sunday, June 10th.

Those who choose not to post, including those who regularly choose not to be a part of this family (blog), will suffer the consequences. This is not an empty threat. Frank will come up with just punishment.

And the winner is...

After careful and thorough deliberation, I am pleased to announce that we have a winner in the inaugural caption contest. While it was a difficult choice, I believe What's His Name's post most distinguished itself. I had the pleasure of notifying Chad in person in Brooklyn (City of) this past weekend. I snapped this photo after telling him and you can see he was pleased and embarassed all at once...the word coquettish comes to mind. Congratulations again, Chad.

What I did not tell Chad is that he is the winner of not one but two unique prizes!! First, he gets a framed print of the contest photo enhanced with his winning caption. Secondly, courtesy of their promotional mailer, if Chad visits our friends at the Nutmeg Restaurant in East Windsor, he will receive a FREE ENTREE with the purchase of a second entree of equal or greater value! (Value up to $15. Offer may not be combined). The offer technically ended on December 31 but they seem like such friendly and reasonable people judging by the postcard. I'm sure they'll honor it.

I would also like to acknowledge the valuable contributions of so few of you. Honorable Mentions go to:

The Captain: For Originality. For suggesting that there is something just off screen that the viewer cannot see.

KBB: For Joie de Vivre. For capturing the entirety of the moment.

Dishonorable mention.
After informing Mars that I was disgusted with her tardy and vulgar entry, she stormed down the streets of New York in a rage. I was barely able to take this shot of her before she darted out of sight.
