And the shirts are off!
Clare, I don't know how to tell you this, but people are really going nuts with the news of your success story. I told you it was madness, but this is wild. Just wild.

Goatta Get Me Some of THAT!

I knew raising a cow to milk would be unrealistic on our soon-to-be kind-of-farm. Then we went to a farm today with the boys, and Luca as usual got comfy hanging with the animals. This time, a pair of goats.
Dad, you raise the bees plez. We'll raise some goats - two for the milking, and a third for the cheese and butter! These are things that make waiting for the right place at the right time soooo worth it.

November Can't Come Soon Enough

Mike passed this email and article to me that he received from a Catholic/Pro-Life professor of his from Holy Cross. I'm so entirely sick of all the election coverage, yet I keep watching. Anyway, I'm passing it on to you all to get opinions, as I can't seem to make up my mind between not voting at all, voting Mccain, or *gasp* giving Obama some thought.
Here it is:
Both John McCain and the Democrats are giving Catholics reasons to reconsider which party can and will do more to reduce the number of abortions in America.
When on August 11, McCain told the Weekly Standard that he welcomed pro-choice Republicans, he articulated openly what has been obvious for some time: the GOP uses the issue to get votes, but will not outlaw abortion.
No less an expert than Prof. Douglas Kmiec, once professor of law at Catholic University, and a former Reagan Administration lawyer who wrote briefs for the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, now says the Democrats have a stronger approach to reducing abortions.

Pettitte relieves himself?

Andy Pettitte tipped his cap today in a bittersweet farewell to Brewsters-Millions. After less than a year as Frank’s logo, Pettitte has stepped down – some say was forced to step down –amidst allegations of Human Growth Hormone use and unsatisfactory performance of his logo duties. He has been Frank’s logo for innumerable witty comments and such posts as ‘Obama Mia,’ ‘Haiku contest,’ ‘Mr. Frank does not go to Washington’ and the controversial ‘What’s the Story,’ movie title contest. Many speculate that it was the failure of that last post that made Andy's departure inevitable.
Choking back tears, Pettitte said, “It’s not personal, it’s what’s best for me and I think for Frank too. Was I a scapegoat? Who knows? Maybe I was. But, I don’t have any hard feelings. It’s just too bad for everybody involved – especially the kids on the site– that things ended on these terms.” Pettitte countered the notion that the quality of his work was lacking: “I feel like I did a lot of good things here, you know, and I sure as heck worked my butt off. Yeah, it's a tough decision. But I keep telling myself there are other blogs out there with other damned handsome users who kind of look like me and need a logo.” The downcast Pettitte said he would not look for another blog right away explaining that he needs time to clear his head after such a demanding year.
In a second stunning announcement, Frank says that he is soliciting his fellow bloggers for new logo suggestions and will select and use the best entry. “That's right, folks. Give me your ideas, celebrity or otherwise. You don't have to have a picture, just a name or description will do. It also helps to have a dream and a whole lot of guts." Beyond the practical benefit to his user profile, Frank sees a bigger goal as well. "I hope this process will foster a renewed sense of communal responsibility and committment to multilateral discourse in our small corner of the blogosphere. I say to all of BMills, let's work together. Let the people be heard!”

Can we pick names ASAP?
I don't want to do any shopping after Thanksgiving this year. Anyone with me?
Mom, can you facilitate by, um, maybe possibly, picking the names and letting us know?

Artificial Sweetiner
Happy news for you Full House fans (am I the only one who teared up at the end of every episode? I digress): Jody Sweetin recently enjoyed a Vegas wedding! Congrats.
What's important however is this:
Lisette, I pronounce this your new blog photo.

You can upload it using this URL. Cut - It - Out! and paste.

Thanks!!
I though the Olsen twins never appeared in the same episode. Talk about a Full House!
How rude.

Natural and Blonde

If you're lucky, maybe once in your lifetime you'll see an unknown player emerge seemingly from nowhere and dominate the game when the stakes are highest. This week, from the cornfields of East Longmeadow, there came a post and a man that set Brewster's Millions on its sweet, buttery ears. Some would call him a Natural. We struggle to search our memories for an adequate precedent. When is the last time something like Jim's post was both a first and a phenomenal effort?
Thirty years ago the Boston Red Sox called up a young outfielder named Fred Lynn who took the American League by storm and garnered not only Rookie of the Year honors but also MVP - a feat still unmatched [103 runs, 47 doubles, and a gawdy .566 slugging percentage; second in batting, with a .331 average, swatted 21 home runs with 105 RBI and 175 hits]. The 23 year old Lynn joined Fisk and Yaz and brought the Red Sox to the very edge of their first world series crown in 57 years... only to fall short to Cincinnati's Big Red Machine. Despite their own magical run, so too Jim and his entry fall just short. He came so painfully close, the decision was even more excruciating than this extended metaphor.
My darling young Annie, I suppose this makes you Pete Rose. I realize this erodes all credibility I ever had (if any) with the community but I have in fact named my wife the winner. In fairness it was Mary's choice too which probably doesn't help my cause. Anyway, the other bloggers may come at me with pitchforks and torches, Ann, so I need to write fast. Congrats on a great post. Jim made me laugh more but yours was just a little more refined and found amusing common ground between two disparate subjects. Good form, old man.
A close third goes to the Captain incidentally. Definitely the most influential post - it set the tone for the rest to come. At first blush I was going to name this entry as the winner. But as you've likely noticed I can't do anything fast (assuming I can do it at all-does it involve being outdoors?). So my deliberation hurt your cause but it was a post good enough to win on most days.
Now, young Jas. Blanchard, you have a raw talent, son. And I think I speak for the rest of the establishment when I say we would love to see it develop. So, for your 2nd place prize, I hand over the judging of the next caption contest to you. I hope it will instill an appreciation and interest in Brewsters Millions that will result in many posts to come. Knock the cover off the blog, Hobbs.
Jim you will have to work with Ann on that contest as I pass the reigns of all Caption Contests in their totality to Ann to administer according to the whims of her unique caprice. That's the first place prize and the price you pay for the talent you flaunt. You wear the daddy pants now. Unlike Pete Rose you gambled and actually won. Enjoy. Also, I think that post warrants another modest prize when I find one that's just right (possibly your own red leotards - that's a nice look).
