Extra points if you can spot the crack.
The buritos were champs. They helped for the first five minutes of digging.
Still the first five minutes of digging.
Then they retreated to that tent yonder. We neglected them all day. Fed them on the grass. And gave them sugary stuff to keep them distracted and at bay. They had a ball in that blessed tent. And spent the entire day outside with us. Never once asking to watch TV.
By noon they were already planning the campout. Sure, guys, you can sleep out here.
But they were dead serious. And how could we say no to that?
By 3:00 they had dragged blankets and sheets and pillows off their beds. Because we only have one sleeping bag. Put that on the list.
Normal kids' bedding:
Catherine's room:
Complete with book and writing materials hung on the wall.
Respect.
Chad thought of a neat idea. Cover the giant stump with the sod we are digging up. So this is my carpeting in progress. I hope it takes. But what's that in the background??
TULIPS! They just bloomed and so far haven't been touched by the deer (thank you putrescent egg solid solution). Each day the deer leave them alone I cherish their blessed souls.
We got a couple of rows further than this in our digging today. And I am in hella pain.
Currently:
Chad is out there with them as I'm posting this. 8:45. Low of 39 tonight. We'll see how long they last!

I woke up to this post. Too early to write a proper comment but let me say this much:
I chuckled out loud when I saw Catherine's room.
And I love this post ~ made for a happy morning :) :) :)
Wow, and is Adela going to be a plumber?
Mars, everyone's waiting to hear if they survived the night . . .
GREAT post!!!!! I want updates.
Yeah, how long did these losers last??
I left them at 9:00 with Chad snuggled up under blankets with them. He said, "I'll be in in a few minutes." That was the last I heard of any of them.
They piled in freezing at 6:30--Catherine with a blue lip that lasted two hours. They are still still exhausted from it.
Quite the first experience of camping outside.
I'm proud of them, blue lips and all.
